SPEEDWAY SMASH AT GAWLER
2 MEN KILLED
Colin Grant aged 21 inter-state champion motorcyclist, was killed at Gawler (SA) Racecourse on Saturday afternoon, in an accident in which Francis Loney aged 29, married of Hart Avenue (Juicy, was also fatally injured.
Grant was speeding down the straight past the grand stand and according to due account, was attempting to adjust his machine,, Farther down the course, J Bullock on another machine enveloped in smoke, was making a start, Paul Lomly, his mechanic was pushing him off when Grant hurtled into them.
Grant was flung against the rails and was picked up unconscious with his arms and legs broken and his skull smashed, Loney's legs were broken. Bullock sustained a broken leg and shock.
