The New Asheville Speedway was a .4 mile Short Track paved oval circuit that was built over the West end of the Owen Field runway in 1962.

1962 - NEW ASHEVILLE SPEEDWAY NASCAR CUPThe first NASCAR Cup race to be held at the venue was on the 13th of July 1962, Jack Smith won that event in a Pontiac, Ned Jarrett won the 1963 and 1964 races in a Ford, Junior Johnson won the 1965 event also in a Ford, 1966 saw David Pearson win in a Dodge, The next three events were all won in a Plymouth, Jim Paschal in 1967 and Richard Petty 1968 and again in 1971.
The track was closed down in 1999 and the venue was turned into a park know as Carrier Park then in 2001 the track was again resealed and is used for cycling.
