DARLINGTON INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Darlington Park Raceway as it was known was planned as an International circuit by Tony Stevens Snr, As often the case public concerns had an impact along with council, They did have some places use it for training and test days.
The kart track was a public hire kart track called MSI Karting and later changed to Karting in Paradise, The track layout was almost identical to the Big Kart Track, The track was 1.3km in length with undulating terrain, The track closed on the 3rd of February 2007.
(Editorial Jason Dwyer)
Jason Dwyer recalls: I managed the track for a couple of years until it closed in 2007, We had Honda 6.5hp and 9hp Dino karts, The track boasted plenty of regular drivers, such as V8 Super car identities Shane Vangisbergen, Marcos Ambrose, Russell Ingall, Glenn Seaton, Rick Kelly and Indy driver Nelson Phillipe.
We held a 100 lap charity race that Nelson raced in and his then girlfriend Miss Indy 2005 Sarah Buller waved the chequered flag, My son and daughter also worked at the venue.
Marcus Ambrose would also bring his own kart to the track, We had a 125 ICC kart with a 6 speed box we would play in and when Nelson was getting ready to return to Indy Car he would come and drive it to get his eye in and reflexes sharper, Him and I would trade practice sessions and I am happy to say that I was within .200 of his times.
