1969 - MURCHISON EAST TRACK
The Goulburn Valley Auto Club was originally formed in 1966, when a group of locals enthusiasts first placed an add in the local Shepparton paper seeking expressions of interest in forming a motor sport club. A meeting was held on the 14th of August 1966 and as a result of that meeting the club was formed, with Mr Barry Myers elected as the inaugural president.
The first two jobs were to find a site and raise enough money to build the veanue, After many rejections from local Government the Durgalong Recreational Reserve Trustee's in conjunction with a local in Mr Keith Perry, land on the eastern side of the Murchison golf club was designated for use as a race track.
As the years passed and the club worked tirelessley to raise the funds the venue began to take shape.
The club held its first race meeting in September of 1969.
The race track was a graded gravel track originally and had dust problems so waste oil was added to the surface but this caused traction problems and also coated the race cars in oil, As the track was built on a flood plain meetings would quite often have to be cancelled after heavy rains.
Racing at this site was short lived as the club moved its operations to Rushworth Speedway and the Golf Club expanded into the previous track site.
