1927 - BABINDA SHOWGROUND SPEEDWAYBabinda Showgrounds Speedway opened on the first of August 1927, One of those motorcycle racing stars was a seventeen year old Cairns boy, Jack Lucus, other riders mentioned in the early reports are WJ Simpson, Henry and Ladara.
On the meeting of the first of October 1927, before a crowd of 1500, was one of accidents galore, The local Babinda Hospital were kept on their toes as no less than six riders finished up under their care, Reville, Davies, Cummings, Adams and Kirby were transferred to the hospital after multiple crashes, Most series was Jack Lucus who sustained a compound arm fracture and Innasfail rider Kirby with injuries to both legs.

November 21 1927: Cycle and motor events were held at the Babinda Speedway, in good weather yesterday, There was a fair attendance, Price entered a protest against Worth for cutting in, in the four-lap final but the protest was dismissed.
