1968 - WANGARATTA HOT ROD TRACK
The Wangaratta Motor Sports Club was formed in 1968 and used the Council owned land to race there old style Hot Rod machines, the early circuit also included a Motor-Cross circuit in the centre of the car track, this was used as a secondary attraction with great success, this facility soon became un-available when the Health Department cracked down on the all speedways in relation to spectator safety, The inaugural President of the club was Ken Symes. by 1970 the venue had closed and the rebuilding of a new circuit was under way.

1971 - WANGARATTA CITY SPEEDWAY
The Wangaratta club with conciderable help from the local council, the Wangaratta Lions Club and other sporting bodies established a credible circuit of oiled dirt following the lead of most other tracks in the region. The track was launched in 1971 and was run with the assistance of the local Lions Club
In 1982 the club had upgraded the track to a convential speedway of 450 metres long on a Granite Sand base with a clay surface
