1949 - BELL BLOCK SPEEDWAY
Bell Block Speedway opened in 1949 as a 1/4 mile dirt oval Motorcycle dirt track.
The track was built by a group of voluteers who scratched it out with the aid of equipment borrowed from local contractors.
The Solo racing did attract a healthy following and it was not long before Midgets were appearing on the program.
Two seasons is all the track lasted as another speedway had been built nearby with better facilities. That being Waiwakaiho Speedway. Bell Block closed in 1951.
