1959 - HICKORY SPEEDWAY
Hickory Speedway began life as one mile sealed race track, The track opened on the 29th of May 1959.
The track was owned by by Mr Mike J Pollio who set the venue up to run midget racing, but towards the end of 1959 the owners focus had shifted to the ever increasing popular stock cars.
Between its opening in 1959 and 1967 the tracks ownership changed hands a few times, The racetrack remained closed in the 1967 season, but did reopen in 1968 after several improvements were made.

1968 - NEWCASTLE SPEEDWAY
With the reopening in 1968 also came a name change to Newcastle Speedway, racing continued through 1969 and into 1970, were the venue was sold to the Tri State Midget Racing Association.

1970 - TRI STATE SPEEDWAY
By early 1970 the Tri State Midget Auto Racing Association had brought the venue and reopened it in May of that year to once again host midget racing, The venue once again received a name change to Tri State Speedway, Racing continued through the 1971 season, but ceased in 1972, only to reopen in 1973, but closed again shortly after that.

1978 - HICKORY SPEEDWAY
In May of 1978 under the ownership of Walt Keller the venue was reopened, this time as a 1/4 mile asphalt track, racing continued through until 1992.

1992 - HICKORY SPEEDWAY
In 1992 the ownership of the venue had changed yet again, This time to Vern Hawley who introduced a dirt surface to the 1/4 mile track.

1997 - HICKORY SPEEDWAY
1997 and yet another ownership change, Tom and Gina Mayerchak had brought the track and continued to upgrade the venue.

2000 - DANNY BURNS
Tragedy struck the raceway on the 29th of May 2000 when Danny Burns a fifty two year old stock car competitor crashed into the track fence and died five days later in hospital, soon after Burns was honoured with a memorial race but the owners who were greatly effected by the death decided to close the venue and that's how it sits today.
