1927 - PIKESVILLE SPEEDWAY
Pikesville Speedway, a 5/8th mile project was the first purpose built track for motorsport in Maryland, it was the first track that wasn't a horse track.
One of the most famous racers that was a regular there was Bill France, the founder of NASCAR.
The had some cheeky promoting, on one occasion they listed a $500 prize pool and when the race was over, it was revealed that the winner would get $50 and only some of the others in top places were to get $10 eack, When asked why, there responce was, the $500 was only to attract the fans.
The track was also known as Millford Mill Speedway.
