1948 - SOUTHPORT MAIN BEACH. MOTORCYCLE RACES. 14th March 1948.
Two events were held on Southport's Main Beach in 1948, The first of these was on the 14th of March 1948, when a crowd estimated at 3,000 to 4,000 people watched motorcycle races. A successful attempt was made on the Australian beach speed record. It was Art Senior who raised the record from 105mph to 106.57mph.
The carnival day which included other sports was organised by the Southport Chamber of Commerce, Surf Life Saving Clubs and some Combined Brisbane Motorcycle Club's and raised 400 pounds for the locals.

On the 3rd of October 1948 a unique speedcar race was organized on the same beach watched by some 2,000 spectators. Other sports were held on the day. There is only one known photo of the event.
