2024 - NEIL HOFFMAN Street Stock's
R.I.P Hoffy: back when Street Stocks first started a young man from South Australia, won the National Title in his home state and travelled to West Australia with his good mate Pat Ross in a identicle Centura the following year to defend it.The National title was being held at Esperence Speedway, but while the boys were here, the President of the Bunbury Car Club, Bill Gifford dug up some sponsoship from Helens Nursery and |
S&R Wreckers to race at Bunbury Speedway, The fun all started the night the team arrived, Darrel Thomson put them up and a shopping centre display was organised the next morning, then a race meeting where Hoffy melted a piston, so it was into the workshop at S&R Wreckers and out came the engine. The engine made its way to my shop were the rebuild was done. Engine back in the hole and another bunch of races, all good and run in ready for the Nationals. At the time i was tied up with Trevor Freeman who had just won the West Australian title and he was running red hot, I like to think that Hoffy and Trevor were waxing for wins, because if they didn't they may of killed each other, such was the killer attitude they both had. all shit aside Trevor and Hoffy became great mates as did all of us, the following year the tital was in Renmark and we all hooked up with Hoffy again and drank some more beer's.
Over many more years i would catch up with Hoffy at race tracks and more so when he came to WA, some would say he was too wild for his own good, that may be right, It would be Bob Wakefield from Kalgoorlie that would take Hoffy under his wing and bring him into the Wakefield family, RIP Wild Man you touch a lot of people and helped many, you jut struggled to take care of yourself. Brian Moyle.
