1906 - CALIFORNIA STATE FAIRGROUNDS
The year was 1906 and a horse racing track was built within the California State Fairgrounds in Sacramento.
By 1907 motorsport had been introduced to the venue in the form of midget racing, one in 1907 and a second in 1912, these would be the only events held prior to the World War 2 motor racing ban.
After the war racing did return with Midgets featuring, In 1949 the track began to host USAC racing with the running of the Golden State 100, Drivers such as AJ Foyt, Al Unser and Jimmy Bryan all enjoyed wins.
By 1956 NASCAR Grand National events were being run at the track.
In 1970 the Fairgrounds had been relocated some two years earlier and so the speedway closed.
