1950 - RUPPERT STADIUM RACEWAY
Ruppert Stadium Raceway opened in 1950 as a 1/5 mile pear shaped dirt speedway running Stock Cars. The track was built to fit neatly within the disused Ruppert Baseball Stadium.
The speedway came about because the home teams, the Newark Eagles and the Newark Bears had moved out.
The speedway was very popular with the fans, with its modern stadium seating and concession facilities.
The future looked bright for Ruppert Stadium as a speedway, but in 1952 after just a few short years it was all over, the owners decided to close and demolish the stadium, with its replacement being a school.
