1904 - ASCOT SPEEDWAY
Ascot Speedway opened as a one mile horse racing venue that introduced motor racing on the big oval dirt track in 1904, The track was often sanctioned by the AAA for there large events, This attracted some of the big names like Barney Oldfield who won the first major event.
It has been reported that in 1908, they ran a 24hour event. The race went for 916 laps with Ralph Leavill and Murray Page winning the race.
It is beleived that in or around 1916 the track surface may have paved, but there is no evidence that this ever happened, Racing continued through to the completion of the 1919 season when the track closed and the developers moved in.
