Buy 1932 speedway racing was appealing to the paying public as a major form of entertainment, Sydney siders were no exception, the growing trend was for big promoted events at Showgrounds, trotting tracks or athletics tracks.
Granville Showgrounds was one of these venues, already a trotting track it was such a simple transition to turn the venue into a speedway track hosting racing for Motorcycles, Sidecars and Midgets, or so it seemed, The speedway would run successfully from 1932 up until 1936 when a bad Sidecar accident attracted attension to the venue, The sport of speedway would be banned at the Granville Showgrounds because of track safety fence concerns or the lack of.
Speedway would return to the Granville Showgrounds 1n January of 1977 when the new Parramatta City Speedway was built on the old Trotting track site.
