1929 - KILBIRNIE SPEEDWAYKilbirnie Speedway official opening date for speedway racing is recorded as the 9th of March 1929, Prior to this date motor cycle racing was quite popular but it was nothing more than a novelity event or grass track racing.
During the 1929 season local riders such as Ross Napier, Wally Kilmister, Tui Morgan, Bill Allena and Jack Arnott all made a name for themselves.
Fay Taylor from Ireland raced a solo bike over the easter period in the tracks first season, beating the local Dave Managh in a monday match race, Managh had previously won the New Zealand Championship on the Saturday night previous.
