The name Ron West was synonymous with Forrestfield Speedway and the WA Hot Rod Association, Ron was heavily involved with the club in its early days in the late 1950's an early 1960's with his familiar 1934 Ford Hot Rod #31.
Ron was dedicated to the heritage of the Hot Rod era in WA and when the the idea of a bi-annual reunion of those involved in the Forrestfield days was suggested by fellow
|
Hot Rod racer Keith Hahn, Ron kindly offered to host the event at his West Coast Motor Museum in Stakehill, a perfect location for the gattering of speedway fans.
The first WAHRA reunion was held in 2012 and was an overwhelming success, with well over 200 attendees, The tall stories of heroic race wins and smashed lap records flowed throughout the day, A further 2 reunion events were held in 2014 and 2016, The latter featuring the inaugural induction of the WAHRA Hall of Fame to recognise those individuals who played important rolls in the founding of Forrestfield Speedway and the WAHRA, Sadly due to Rons ill-health this years scheduled reunion was unable to be held.
Rons dedication to the WAHRA, WA Classic Speedway and all things motorsport in WA will never be forgotten, From everyone associated with the Forrestfield Speedway we would like to thank Ron for his dedication to the WAHRA and extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this sad time.
