1966 - SHERMAN CLEVELAND LOOSES HIS LIFE
Sherman Cleveland twenty nine of Woodland, California, was killed Saturday night when his sprintcar crashed through a fence at the Caslistoga Fairgrouds and hit a tree.
Authorities said Cleveland had just completed a time trial run and was circling the quarter mile track when the accident occurred, He had just rebuilt the car from a previous crash the night before at Reno Speedway and didn't get to the track in time for practice, It is possible that there may have been undetected damage from that accident.
They estimate the speed to be at around 70mph. Sherman raced at Reno Speedway and Tahoe-Carson Speedway several times this year, Sherman was buried on the 6th of July 1966.
