1968 - CLARMONT SPEEDWAY WEST AUSTRALIAN SPEEDCAR CHAMPIONSHIP 1968It was a skillful drive by Geoff Stanton on Friday night when he took out Speedcar Championship at Claremont Speedway. Geoff took the final flag from Howard Revell from New South Wales and Perth's own, Noel McDonald.

1968 - JOHN FENTON
John started racing go carts at the age of fourteen and later hot rods at Claremont Speedway. in 1964 John moved into Super Modifieds, but it would be in 1968/1969 Johns speedcar carear would start, this would be the same start date for two other Perth drivers in Keith Mann and Charlie West.
John would go on to purchase a Sesco from Hank Butcher and show his versatility by winning National titals on the Rowley Park dirt circuit in 1975 and on the Liverpool asphalt track in 1976, prior to this John was runner up in 1971 and third in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
Johns record includes seven West Australian titals and runner up on five occasions, he had also won fifty nine feature races at Claremont Speedway, the most for any speedcar driver, this included ten in one season,also the 1977 one hundred lap feature race in Brisbane.
In 1976 the ex AJ Foyt Volkswagon was purchased and John went on to win the Bob Tattersall memorial race from America's Larry Rice and then finished second to him the following week at the World Speedcar Derby.
In 1976 John also won the Northern Territory speedcar tital and then again in 1980.
John retired from full time racing in ???? and with help from his farther Ken took over the running of the Bunbury Speedway, this period would see the intrduction of moto cross racing under lights in WA.
During Johns time at Bunbury he played a major roll in getting a young man by the name of Ron Krikke his introduction into sprintcar car racing, John would later move on to focus more on motor cross and mentor his son Tony.
