1966 - KOPUKU DRAGWAY
Kopuku Dragway opened in 1966 as a 1/4 mile clay dragstrip and in its three year life span turned on three years of series drag racing. The racing was sanctioned by the New Zealand Hot Rod Association.
The racing was controlled by the starter with a flag drop, At the end of the strip another official with a stop watch used a telephone to ring through the times, When racing ceased at the strip, Drag racing moved on to the Meremere Dragway.
