1971 - NAGAMBIE SPEEDWAY
With most of the recently constructed tracks in the Northern Victorian area following the "circuit" configuration Nagambie Speedway Club produced an oval as its site to the West of the town near Graytown in 1971 with the assistance of the Gouburn Shire, Many Nagambia members came from the Army base at Puckapunyal, as was the case with Seymour, This meant that these members would inevitable move on.
In late 1970 the Nagambia Chambers of Commerce leased land from a local farmer to build a speedway with a view to creating interest in the area for town improvement. Debentures were taken out with local businesses to pay the costs of building the track and amenities.
The Nagambia Speedway opened in April 1971 with Owan Monahan as inaugural Club President, The Chamber of Commerce initially ran the canteens from a caravan and manned the gate, The Nagambia Speedway Club ran the meetings.
In 1972 the kiosk was built with the Speedway Ladies Auxiliary paying for the building, By this time the Chamber was loosing interest and after a period of negotiations agreed to hand over the track to the club on the proviso that all debentures were repaid, this was completed by 1978, The Lease of the track was handed to the Nagambia Speedway Club in 1980.
Nagambie Speedway was built on the side of a slight hill which was both good and bad news.
Good news because it provided an excellent spectator view, but bad news, because the downside of the track needed to be built up and did not have a fence.
As a result drivers going wide on turn two tended to fall of the track
Sometimes they would try to charge back up again to re-join the race as demonstrated here by Ken Ziebell.

By the mid 1970's the Knorpp family had become firmly entrenched in the Nagambie Speedway Club and their enthusiasm and hard work was reflected in the number of positions which the family held in the club, For example, the new office bearers for the 1975/76 season included President, Ray Knorpp, Secretary, Pauline Knorpp, Track Marshall, John Knorpp, who also held the position of Scrutineer and Handicapper, Newsletter Editor, Pauline Knorpp and Ray and Pauline Knorpp also held the positions as N.E.H.R.A representatives.

1972 - John Thomas of Signs and Lines puts the finishing touches on Jacks FE-EK.
1972 - Black Jack" Cricelli from Shepparton was one of the most entertaining characters that we have ever met, Jack had just built a new car, which happened to be about once a month - a FE Holden, It won best presented" the first time out at Nagamba, Jack was very proud, unfortunately, during that day, Jack crashed, not unusual and the rear half of the FE was written off, in fact Jacks team mate John Price ran into the back of him.
The next week Jack cut the destroyed back half off with a chain saw, but not having a spare FE handy he replaced it with a EK cut.
