1967 - CAPITAL SPEEDWAY
Capital Speedway in Holts Summit opened in 1967 as a 3/8 mile Clay oval Speedway.
Although the venue was very successful and was rated highly within the competitors and fans, it still was forced to close down in 2003, to make way for a housing development.

1975 - TOM COLEMAN Sprintcar's
---F a t a l i t y M a r s Opening Night---
3rd May 1975 - Sadly Capital Speedway in Holts Summit has recorded its first fatality since opening in 1967 during the seasons first Sprintcar race on opening night of this current season. Thirty six year old Columbia racer, Tom Coleman was fatally injured after his Sprintcar rode up and over Jim Robinson's car on the final lap of there first event, Coleman's car went into a wild series of end over end flips, finally coming to a stop on the back straight infield. Coleman initially survived the accident but died from his head injuries while in transit to a Jefferson City Hospital.
