1964 - MILDURA HOT ROD CLUB
As the popularity of speedway was on the rise during the 1960's, and many tracks close to Mildura were already operating, ie Warrnambool, Mount Gambier, Renmark, Murray Bridge and Nyah West, it was apparent that interest was growing in a track for Mildura.
The push for a local speedway was headed by Ross Crick, previously from the Gippsland area, Ross had raced at the Trafalger track, Ross set about enlisting help from many of the local police officers in the area to encourage the local youth to give the street racing a miss and get into Hot Rod racing.
An advertisement was placed in the local newspaper to form a speedway club for cars, as a result of this meeting was held on the 18th of June 1964 at the Go Kart club rooms next to the airport.
After this meeting concluded the club was formed, a committee was elected, bank account set up and a constitution drawn up, The club would be known as the Mildura Hot Rod Club.

1964 - SILVER CITY SPEEDWAY
The clubs first attempt at building a speedway was a failure, the location for this track was to be off River Road with the name being Silver City Speedway, this area however was prone to flooding and that rendered the site unusable.

1964 - TIMMIS SPEEDWAY
Mr Albert Timmis who was leasing land at the time at Mildura South offered to make available a portion of this land along Deakin Avenue for the club to build a speedway, This offer was accepted and the speedway would be known as Timmis Speedway.
The initial track had a dogleg in the back straight (Western side) The infield still contained a number of malley trees.
Timmis Speedway opened to the public on the 13th of September 1964 with a programme featuring car and motorcycle racing.
