1937 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
Bowman Gray Stadium was built back in 1937 as a public works project to provide jobs during the great depression.

1939 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
The first Auto Racing at Bowman Gray Stadium was Midget Car racing on a 1/4 mile dirt oval trough until 1949.

1947 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
Bowman Gray Stadium was paved in 1947 and Stock Car racing was introduced by Bill France senior and Alvin Hawkins, These two were a big part of getting Nascar off the ground. Bowman Gray would be the first paved track that Nascar raced on and also the first to run weekly events during the summer months.

1953 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
By 1953 the popularity of speedway had hit an all time high. An increase in seating at the venue saw the capasity lifted to around 17,000, plus standing room for another 2,000.

1970 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
Motorcycle races were held on a dirt track within the Stadium in 1970 and 1971.

1982 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM NASCAR WINSTON 200 1st May 1982

2021 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
Many high profile events have been held at this track over the years. From that first big one on the 18th of May 1949. which Fonty Flock won. Some of those series run at the venue were the. Nascar Cup Series, Nascar Convertable Division, Nascar Xfinity Series, Nascar Grand American Dash Series, Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour, Nascar Late Model Sportsman Division and the Nascar K&N Pro Series.

2022 - BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
The weekly tradition of racing at Bowman Gray Stadium still continues as a part of the Whelen All American Series. The current program consists of Modifieds, Sportsmans, Street Stocks, Stadium Stock Divisions and Legend Cars, and lets not forget about the legalized vandalisum of Demo Derby's and the Monster Truck visits.
