1948 - CANBY SPEEDWAY
Canby Speedway opened on the 1/2 mile horse racing track within the Yellow Medicine County Fairgrounds in 1948. Midget racing featured on the program initially, but by the 1950's Stock Car racing was sweeping across America and taking over tracks like Canby Speedway. During this period the track was reduced to a 1/4 mile oval. Racing continued until 1966, and that when the speedway closed for the first time.
