The year was 1917 and the sport of motorcycle racing had become very popular. It was a fairly cheap form of motor racing compared to the 4 wheelers. Clubs were popping up all over Australia. These events at Werribee were hosted by the Victorian Motor Cycle Club and managed to attract a lot of interest.
