1939 - HERSHEY STADIUM SPEEDWAY
Hershey Stadium Speedway opened on the 11th of May 1939 as a 1/4 mile flat paved oval, The track ran midgets and was promoted by Sherman F "Red" Crise, who was also the race director.
On their opening night, 11,265 fans crowded into the stadium, where 28 midgets showed up to compete at the newly constructed track, With such a large number of cars in attendance, Crise announced that he more than doubled the purse to $15,000, which was a lot of money in 1939.
Merlyn "Doc" Shanebrook of Chicago won the 25 lap feature there that night, The first race meeting of the year was sanctioned by the Central States Racing Association.

1940 - HERSHEY STADIUM SPEEDWAY
The 1940 season of midget racing continued on thursday evening, the 2nd of May 1940, Crise decided to run on Thursday' s and Monday's, which gave a whole new schedule, CSRA scheduled to run the Thursday's on what was known as the red circuit.
The American Automobile Association would run on Monday's, on what was known as the Blue circuit, This twice a week schedule only lasted two weeks, so racing returned to Thursday's once more.

1941 - HERSHEY STADIUM SPEEDWAY
The speedway opened again on the 30th of May 1941, Roscoe Hough took the win in front of a record crowd of 12,500, By 1941 the popularity of racing had grown, by the end of the season, Hershey had experienced another successful season.
However racing came to an end as the United States entered World War 2, Racing at the track would not occur again for another 27 years, The track would run again in about 1968 - 1969 and in 1982 - 1983.
