BENTLEY NURSERY & KENT STREET WEIR TRACKS
Speedway cycle racing in Perth was controlled by the West Australian Amateur Speedway Association and was heavily inluenced by Speedway solo racing, as some of the names indicate, the young riders most often would come from either speedway families or they would go on to become latter day champions.
The teams of the day were: The Bentley Boomerangs, Welshpool Rangers, Bentley aces, Shenton Park Tigers, Wembley Lions, Bayswater Flashes, Manning Marlons, Manning Magpies and the South Perth Saints.
One of those riders who rode for the Welshpool Rangers was Les Sharpe, at the time Les was fourteen years old, he went on to ride solo's at Claremont and Bibra Lake speedways with huge success so much so that Aub Lawson arranged for Les to travel to England and ride for the Halifax test team.
Another of the riders pictured is Ron Tilby, son of Mick Tilby one of Claremont Speedways directors, Trevor Hobbs was another rider who went on to race sidecars until he lost his life in an accident at Claremont Speedway.

Tony Wilton recalls: I was captain of the Manning Magpies, raced every friday at Claremont around that time.

Darrel Manning recalls: I was with the Bayswater Flashes and remember racing against the Bentley Boomerangs, two of my team mates were Rodney Cutting and Ross McGregor, Silv Baker and Albie used to cart us all over the place, great times.
