1962 - GOLSWORTHY
Mount Golsworthy mining associates began exploration in the area in 1962, By 1964 the West Australian Government had granted approval for iron ore mining to commence.
In 1966 Iron ore was being railed to to the Port Hedland port for shipping overseas, Golsworthy was in fact the start of iron ore mining in Western Australia, The town was closed and demolished in 1994.

1969 - GOLSWORTHY SPEEDWAY
Like many other dirt motorcycle and car tracks built in the North West of West Australia, if it wasn't for the mining companies support in the loan of equipment most of these venues would never of been built.
This very rough speedway track was built using Golsworthy Mining's equipment, Organised by Alex Patrick, Keith McKenzie and Baz Ford, It was only used for a short time, The track never really took off and was eventually abandoned.

Baz Ford recalls: I cant remember any official meeting being held at the track, it was more of a muck around project for some of the locals, Because of Alex Patrick's involvement we erected a sign there "Patrick's Folley", It was definitely all over by when I left Goldsworthy in 1983.

Bill Criss recalls: I still have a clear vision of being taken out to the speedway by Ian Stobie in his red and white HR or HD Holden, Ray Cook was in the back, Ian was displaying his skills behind the wheel when I saw a wheel go hurlinf off in front of the car, I thought wow look at that, but then it dawned on me that it had come off the car we were in, he just kept going.

Bill Temperton recalls: Ray Ford had the Mount Golsworthy BP Service Station and did light vehicle maintainance for the mine, He later moved to Wubin and raced at Pitharra for a short period, He got his nick name :The Screaming Scull" because when he did his block he could be heard miles away, I knew him for a long time and he was a good bloke,he would help anyone in the shit like Dave Macpherson except i never seen Dave loose his shit like Ray.
The last car that Ray raced was built by Ted Pettit from Perth who worked for Ray for a short while, Ted was a Panelbeater Spraypainter. Ray passed away many years ago

The Landrover seen in some of the photos had a frame on the back that which we could hang a block and tackle on to tow the wrecks home, They were great times, many a king brown was drank in Larry on the way home.
