1958 - GREATER PITTSBURGH SPEEDWAY
Greater Pittsburgh Speedway originally opened as a 1/4 mile dirt oval track on the 13th of June 1958. The track remained as a dirt track until its last meeting on the 3rd of September in 1967.
The track was very successful with the fans and also the drivers, The program would often include, Stock Cars, Supermodifieds and Midgets.
Around 1967, the track was on-sold to new owners who decided to pave the surface, This turned out to be the wrong decission as the competitor and spectator numbers both fell away.
The track closed in 1970, never to re-open as a speedway.
