1963 - US 13 DRAGSTRIP
US 13 Dragstrip was a idea that Bill Cathell and his son Charlie made a reality back in 1963 after they purchased a parcel of land on the west side of US 13.
Initially they laid down a 1/5 mile strip, until additional land could be brought to extend the strip to a 1/4 mile.
The Delmar Drag Club played a big role in the success of the drag events at the venue.

1965 - DELMARVA AUTO RACING ASSOCIATION
With the Drag Racing sceeene under control the family's attension shifted to the building of an oval dirt track on the west side of the strip. The Delmarva Auto Racing Association leased the speedway off the family from 1965 through to 1968. During its second year of operation the dirt track was moved to its current location but as a 1/3 mile oval. After the Delmarva Auto Racing Association's tenure was up, the Cathell family re took control of the track.
