1934 - HUNTINGTON SPEEDWAY
Huntington Speedway was a disused 1/2 mile horse racing track at the Huntington Fairgrounds, Speedway racing events began on the 5th of June 1934, However the track soon came under the scrutiny of the coroner after a racing accident on the 18th of November 1934, when John Mulvihill aged twenty one from Danbury Connecticut crashed over an embankment and died as a result of his injuries.
The coroner JJ Phelan recomended that racing should be banned at Huntington until such time as the Connecticut State Police were satisfied with the safety at the venue.
Racing did continue at the Fairgrounds through until 1939 without any future problems.
