Greg Weld was a sprintcar champion that tried qualifing 7 times for the Indianapolis 500, The Kansas born driver was to make it to the grid on one occasion only in 1970.
Greg was the owner and driving force behind his company Weld Wheels, a company that mass produces alluminium race rims.
This champion passed after suffering a heart atack at 64.

The 58th running of the Indianapolis 500 was run on the 26th of May 1974.
Johnny Rutherford took out the win on his 11th attempt after starting from position 25, He led home Bobby Unser and Bill Vukovica in third.
Pole sitter AJ Foyt set a record for most consecitive starts at Indy with 17, he would go on to re-write the record to 35 before retiring.

The 61st running of the Indianapolis 500 was run on the 29th of May 1977.
The winner of the Indy 500 was AJ Foyt for his fourth victory, second was Tom Sneva from Al Unser in third spot.
Two other milestone's were set at the meeting Tom Sneva was the first driver to set 200mph and Janet Guthrie became the first women to qualify for the race.

Bobby Unser driving for Team Penske crossed the line first to take the win only to have it taken off him for passing a car under yellow, The dessision was turned over some months later and Bobby was re-enstated with his win, Mario Andretti was second and Vern Schuppan third.
