Rick Yates recalls: Hidyuki "happy" Hirano ran at Claremont Speedway around 1963 and toured the country in the Bill Reynolds owned Repco Holden as Japan 1.
Bill himself was 3 times NSW Speedcar Champion and 1956 Australian champion, He was also a speedway promoter, a real showman that new what the paying public wanted, the grandstands were always full.
Lincoln Castle recalls: I remenber high fiving Happy along the back straight on this night at Claremont Speedway when I was about twelve, and then actually meeting him in Japan twenty years later on one of Peter Whites speedway tours.
