1973 - BATHURST HARDIE FERODO 1000 30th September 1973Sunday the 30th of September 1973 was an iconic day in history of motor racing at the Mount Panorama circuit.
The great race was extended from 500 to 1000 kilometrs.
The winners of this first extended great race were Allan Moffat and Leo Geoghagan in a XA Falcon GT, Second place went to Peter Brock and Doug Chivas in the first of the Holden Dealer team GTR-XU1 Torana's, this was a huge effort from the team after that well documented running out of fuel problem that Chivers endured. Third place went to Colin Bond and Leo Geoghegan in the second of the Holden Dealer Teams GTR-XU1 Torana's. At race end the first three cars would be the only ones on the lead lap.
