1954 - SPORTSMAN SPEEDWAY
Sportsman Speedway opened on the 6th of May 1954 in Marshall Missouri on farmland owned by Raymond Burgess as a 1/4 mile Dirt oval, running Stock Cars and Modifieds.
The Speedway was built by and promoted by a couple of great mates in Junior Copas and Bill Mikle along with the land owner Raymond Burgess at a cost of about $25,000.

In the early 1960's lighting was errected and the racing shifted to mainly night events.
The name of the venue was changed to Saline County Speedway as time passed, The track would also start running some very large races under the Missouri Racing Association.
By the late 1970's Sprintcar racing had become very popular at the track with even the great Jan Opperman appearing on a regular basis.
The track did close after the completion of the 1983 season never to re open again.
