ATTWELL PARK SPEEDWAY 1972 to 1975.
1972 - POWERLINE SPEEDWAY.
In 1972 a kidney shaped track was opened on the existing site. It is reported that the name of the track that the Albany Hot Rod Club settled on, was Powerline Speedway, named after the major power line structure that ran next to the venue's boundry fence. However a rift in the club caused a split. Over the next few years several tracks were started but most never completed.
The current site received a major upgrade years later when timbers were salvaged from the closed Motor Drome complex to convert the track to a fully fenced oval track.
Over the years that first timber fence was replaced with another timber structure and eventually that was replaced with the concrete fence that is in place currently.
In the 1980's the club erected track lighting for night racing as well as the catch fence.
