1953 - THORNHILL LAKE DRAGSTRIP.
Drag Racing commenced at the old Thornhill Airfield in 1953. The meeting's were conducted by a local car club. The surface of the strip was dirt and oiled down to avoid any dust issues. At some point during the tracks early time, the start line area was paved, with more section's also being paved as time rolled on, by 1958 the entire strip had been paved.
It is believed by many that Thornhill Lake Dragstrip is the oldest continuously running drag strip in the nation. Photographer: unknown.
