1982 - WESTERN INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY. Australian Modified Saloon Car Championship. 5th & 6th February 1982.John Cartwright wins from the RepechageNew South Wales driver John Cartwright in his Stingray Corvete has won this year Australian Modified Saloon Car Championship here this weekend at Western International Raceway.
He has won the event but it was a long road to get to the finish, Firstly he did not fare to well in the heats and did not make the final. But he did have enough to make the Repechage of which he managed to win. That would give him a grid position of 20.
Seventy five cars entered this years race all hoping to make it into the 50 lap final, but we all know the cant happen, 20 heats were contested on night one with top points going

to West Australian driver Ian Metcalf in a Leo Gommers built Chev Monza. It would be a strong representation from Western Australia, but not there year. New South Wales was the state that came through in the end with Grenville Anderson finishing in 2nd, John Leslight 3rd, Adrian Anderson 4th and Graham Lillford in 5th.
