Rob Roy Hillclimb started in 1936 within the area known as Clinton's Pleasure Grounds, Several motoring enthusiasts along with the Light Car Club of Victoria got the ball rolling by marking out the course, Rob Roy was a public road and the surface was unsealed.

Dave Barry recalls: I did go to the Rob Roy Hillclimb a few times and enjoyed the meeting's. The event's were more for four wheels, not two, which was my passion, but on occasions the bike's would be on the program, I was way to busey riding speedway and Long Track events.
