LORAIN COUNTY SPEEDWAY.
1949 - LORAIN COUNTY SPEEDWAY. Opening. 3rd July 1949.
Lorain County Speedway or Lorain Raceway Park as it has been refered to, is said to have opened on the 3rd of July 1949, by one report, however a further piece of information claims the meeting on the 21st of August was the opener. a month and a half later. When opened the track layout was a 1/3 mile Dirt Oval. The venue ran successfuly right up until the 1st of October 1960 when the track was closed for it to be sealed and run as a pavement speedway, in the hope of luring bigger name driver's with better Quality Race Cars.
1961 - LORAIN COUNTY SPEEDWAY.
The Speedway rebuild was completed and reopened on the 20th May 1961 as a Hard Top track, currently the speedway is a 3/8 mile asphalt oval with 12 degrees of banking on the turn's, with a slight banking on the straightaway's.
