CHARLESTON FAIRGROUNDS.
Charleston Fairgrounds and the 1/2 mile dirt oval track situated within its boundry was originally used for the sport of Horse Racing.

1924 - CHARLESTON FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY.
Motor Racing first appeared at the Fairgrounds in 1924. Then again in 1932. possibly as a support event for the Annual Fair.
By around 1935 the venue began to hold more regular stand alone events through until 1941, when World War 2 would see a world wide ban placed on all motor racing event's. This would see the track just lay idle.

1946 - DUNBAR SPEEDWAY.
In 1946 and after the war speedway racing returned to the Fairgrounds in the form of Midget racing, Also the name of the Fairgrounds track was changed to Dunbar Speedway. Racing continued through until 1955, when the Speedway closed down.
