1953 - BULAWAYO SHOWGROUND SPEEDWAY.
Speedway in Rhodesia started in 1953 when the newly formed Rhodesia Speedway Association was formed and Solo Motorcycle racing commenced under lights at the Bulawayo Showgrounds.
12,000 fans who had only heard about this form of racing packed in to watch these dare devils rip up the cinders while in the process of going for glory.
This first meeting was a Test Series between the teams of South African and Rhodesia. It was not a bad nights racing for the first attempt, with the win going the way of South Africa on 37 points, to Rhodesia 34.
