1953 - BUCKLAND BEACH ROAD RACE MEETING. 28th February 1953.It was the 28th of February 1953 that the quiet public road along side of the Buckland Beach in Auckland burst into life with the rumble of some very noisey motorcycles with there wide open pipes.
This was to be the first of many but for what ever reason this was the only event that the street's would be closed for.
Some reports indicate that the circuit was a tough one. The Junior Clubmans Handicap had 15 starter but only six finishers.
The circuit was sealed with the exception of Whitcombe Road, which was also downhill, making for a braking nightmare at the beach front.
