Vosbergen Win's the JD Classic.Late Model Racing Western Australia reportedBrent Vosbergen has continued to build on his season form by powering to victory in the John Day Classic tonight at the Perth Motorplex, securing his second win in the prestigious event with a commanding performance in a drama filled 30 lap

feature. The opening lap set the tone immediately as Vosbergen and Ken Macpherson hit the line together, with Brad Blake and Rod Musarra right behind them. Vosbergen took control early, with Macpherson in hot pursuit and Blake sliding past Musarra for third.
|
However, before a lap could be completed , Nathan Richards and David Boyes tangled triggering the first yellow. Attempt 2 played out much the same, with Vosbergen again leading away, but this time with Luke Halliday surging into second as Blake slowed out of turn 2, forcing the field to scatter before he was able to exit the track.
Vosbergen wasted no time re-establishing his dominance, opening a near two second lead before Matt Robbins spun in turn one to

bring out another caution. The restart saw Vosbergen charge away once more, with Halliday holding second ahead of Macpherson, while Joe Chalmers slipped past Musarra into fourth. Within just a few laps, Vobergen was again more than two seconds clear as Macpherson and Halliday waged a fierce battle. Macpherson on the high line, Halliday hugging the bottom, and Chalmers lurking directly behind.
Halliday eventually shook free, but a lapped car hampered Macpherson's momentum, allowing first Chalmers and then Beau Oldfield to slip by. Disaster struck moments later when Macpherson's engine released a puff of smoke, forcing him infield just before a yellow was thrown for Jay Cardy who suffered a flat tyre.
On the restart, the running order changed quickly as Chalmers and Oldfield both moved past Halliday while Michael Holmes also slipped through for fourth. One lap latter, Veronica McCann stormed into the top five with an impressive move.
With seven laps to go, Oldfield made a bold drive on Chalmers entering turn three but the car slid out from under him, sending him backwards into the wall and bringing on another caution.
Holmes attempted a big outside move on Chalmers on the second of the restarts, but couldn't make it stick and soon found himself under fire from McCann, who continued her late race charge.
Despite all the moves behind him though, no one had an answer for Vosbergen. As he had done all night, Vosbergen blasted away on the restart and controlled the final laps to take his second John Day Classic Late Model victory. Chalmers claimed a strong second, with Holmes third, McCann fourth and Halliday rounding out the top five.

Beau Oldfield Robbed of Valuable Points.Beau has taken to the keyboard to explain his being ordered to the infield during tonight's Pro Dirt round 4 feature event.
Round 4 of the Late Model Racing WA Pro Dirt Series for the Prestigious John Day Classic, and it was a night that delivered both strong pace and a frustrating finish.
The night began on a high note with a strategic start to the evening in Heat 1, I was able to race hard and clean in a great battle with Rocket and Joe making a move on the final corner to take the win - an awesome way to open the program.
Heat 2 saw me starting from the back , and while traffic made it tough to move forward, i kept chipping away and managed to climb

our way up to 5th on the final lap, putting us in a solid position for the 30 lap feature.
For the feature race, I qualified and lined up 6th, and the car felt strong from the start. I settled in, worked my way into 3rd, and began chasing down 2nd place in the closing laps. Unfortunately, I entered a corner too hot, hit the brakes hard to avoid contact, and the car came around on me spinning and backing into the wall.
Despite the damage, I was able to keep the car going and attempted to rejoin, but the stewards called me infield under what i was told was a new "one spin and your out" rule-something i hadn't previously been made aware of. That call ended my knight early and resulted in another D.N.F, which is frustrating and has pushed me further down the points standings.
It wasn't the finish we wanted, but the car speed, racecraft, and progress continue to improve each round. We'll regroup, repair the damage, and come back determined for the next one.
